Every year I will make a point to make it back to my hometown in (Kudat, Sabah). I would normally stop by Kota Kinabalu for a few days since it's the City Center and to catch up with friends and family members who are around the area. The 'real' balik kampung is when I go back to Kudat. Kudat lies at the most Northern part of Borneo island. My Kampung name is called Kampung Popot. Not sure how the name came about but it sure is a great place to be.
Kudat's main source of economy used to be coconut produce and the cultivation of rice. Nowadays, a lot of the kampung area were cleared to make way for palm oil plantation. It's has both good and negative impact in my opinion. There used to be a river near my house where we would be swimming and jumping and had a splash of a good time. Now it's just a small stream. We will talk more about this part of Sabah on another post. If you want to know more about Kudat, here's a good reference.
