A trip to Broga Hill

05 December 2012 - We made the first visit to one of the famous landmark and hiking hill in Selangor, The Broga Hill. The location of the hill is just around 5 minutes drive from the University of Nottingham in Semenyih.

Broga is the small town that's sit on border Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia. It's situated around 50 km from Kuala Lumpur. It's not tough to hike and it takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes for the whole distance. There are four peaks to face up. Each peak have slightly different view and the further you go up, you'll see a fabulous landscape created. Although the hike is not too high, you may be surprised with the amazing view and if you climb at a dawn, sunrise is waiting to give you great scenery.

We reached the entrance of Broga Hill around 06:00AM. The journey begins after parked our car in a farm opposite of the rabbit farm. Around 30 minutes we have reached at the first peak. Climbing in the dark is quite interesting because all the light you have is only from the torch light and probably moonlight.

We rested for a while then we moved forward to another peak. After 15 minutes we have reached another peak (not too sure if this is second or third peak). The scenery and view were really nice. Our main objective to climb in the dark was to see the sunrise. Although the sky was bright but we couldn't see the rising sun, probably it was blocked by numbers of cloud.

Everyone is busy capturing the scenery photo with their smart phone and camera. Especially when tried out the “Panorama” camera feature, it was so fun to see that everyone is busy moving around for the purpose of having few different pose in one panorama photo.

It was indeed a great, fun and challenging activity. Also it was totally worth it to sacrifice a sleep for such great activity.

Things to remember / bring:
-          Good and comfortable hiking shoes with good grip
-          A torch light if you climb in the dark
-          Insect repellent
-          Water
-          Snacks / Food. ( Thanks to Crystal for prepared such a healthy breakfast )
-          A Camera / Smart phone with good camera feature.

Here some photo to make you feel great at there.

Christmas Decorations

Christmas is just 15 more days away. Look around we can see beautiful Christmas decorations especially in the shopping malls. I don't know about other kids but my Halley and Ryenne just couldn't keep their eyes off those beautiful decorations and lighting. They love to touch the Christmas ornaments on the Christmas trees. Well here are some of the creative and beautiful Christmas decorations in our local shopping malls.

Weekend Getaway

I could still recall the first time I pick up my shoes and started jogging.  I could barely jog continuously for more than 5 minutes.  I felt so weak and hopeless when my 8 year old daughter has done better than me.

She advised me “Mom, focus at the tiles on the road, start counting them and in no time you shall reach to the end.”

That was in year 2006, that's when i told myself i have to start jogging!!

Within the same year, all my families’ members engaged in these same activities.  We were heavily engaged in Marathon.  Our age were ranging between 4 years old to 77 years old.

This word “Marathon” made me a little nervous; Marathon is an endurance foot race cover 42.2kM (26 miles, 385 yards) and am I heading to it?  My knowledge on Marathon was so shallow then, they do have Marathon for 3KM, 5KM, 7KM, 10KM, 15KM,  25km, 30km beside the Half Marathon – 21KM and Full Marathon – 42KM.  Well, I obviously started off on the minimum KM with my children.

I would call it a great family outing or weekend getaway.  To be able to spend a fresh morning breeze, bright healthy sunlight and later with delicious breakfast, what else could anyone ask more?  In addition, the satisfaction, thrill and achievement when one touches the finishing line were indescribable!!

Along my involvement in Marathon, I have learned lots of good training information and met lots of friend with good advices and tips.  My greatest regret was I have yet to achieve the Full Marathon.  While my son has achieved Half Marathon, my husband has achieved Full Marathon, and I trust I will not give up on this.

And the ultimate contentment for taking part in Marathon for all these while was feeling Healthy and physically fit as ever, not only me, but my family’s member and friends as well.

Water of life

Water.

The most abundant compound on earth. It covers 70% of the earths surface. The formula is H2O. It has a boiling point of 99.98° C. Even our body consist of 60%-70% of water. We used water in almost any industry. Agriculture, manufacturing, construction, medical even your latest smart phone somehow includes water during its processing. Can a car run without water? Very unlikely. But do we really know everything there is to know about water?

Water can also be in solid, liquid or invincible state. In fact there is water in the air as we speak. Water can even break through concrete through a growing plant. That's the amount of pressure water are capable of. Divers especially knows this. The atmospheric pressure at the surface is 14.7 pounds per square inch or around 100 kPa. At about 10 m below the surface, the water exerts twice the pressure (2 atmospheres or 200 kPa) on the body as air at surface level. So much pressure! (..and you wonder how come the fishes and jelly fish makes it look so easy)

Water has been around longer than us. Perhaps we can learn a lot from what little facts that we know about water. Below is another amazing revelation about water. An experiment done by Dr. Masaru Emoto. Water was exposed to music, spoken words, pictures and videos. Different exposure resulted in different physical structures after the water was crystallized and seen under the microscope. It seems like positive exposure gives out beautiful structures.

So does this mean since our body consist of 60%-70% water, exposing ourselves to positive 'vibes' is a good idea?

Think about it.

What's for dinner?

Making dinner can be a fun and interacting way to connect with our kids. We just need to be creative and super patient. Yes, patience is very very important. And also don't be afraid to get ourselves and our kitchen table dirty.

It's good to get our kids to help us in the kitchen. They love the idea of being able to help mummy cooking. Well, at least this is what my 3 year old Halley thinks. She loves it when I ask for her help.

Here's a little video of Halley kneading "pan mee" dough for the first time.

Halley was so excited and proud of herself and bragged to practically everyone in the house because she had helped out in making dinner. And she ate a little bit more than usual too.

Do you have any recipes that we can make with our little ones?

Why I like my English subject

I recently came across many students who confessed that they hate English subject. Come to think about it I was once hated the subject too but not anymore.  What could have changed that?

When I tried to think back, there was one incident during my primary school time that could have changed my perception toward learning the language.  I was from Sekolah Kebangsaan and we usually speak in Chinese and BM in school.  English at that time was not common at all.  We had this weird mindset that those who speak English is just trying to show off, ‘sombong’ some call it ‘action’ but I think most of us were just too afraid of being laughed at if speak wrongly.

All these changed when she came to our school as temporary English Teacher.  It was really so long ago and i wished i can still remember her name.  All I can remember was during one of her English classes, she brought a cassette player and start playing some songs.  We were to copy the lyrics from the blackboard and before we knew it, the whole class started singing, struggling at first with the lyrics, the pronunciation and trying to understand what the song is all about.  We had so much fun singing and we had totally forgotten about our fear of becoming laughing stock because of our bad pronunciation .

And there was another time when she brought us out of the classroom, to learn about instructions on how to make sandwiches…not from textbook but an actual hands-on making real sardine sandwiches and we actually had a picnic after that.

Having said all that, I’m not implying that my English has improved tremendously overnight or I scored A in all my English tests as a results to these, but most importantly, it has changed my negative perception towards learning English.  I paid more attention and I like my English subject.

All these interactive and hands-on ways of learning have definitely worked for me and my classmates back then.  What about you? What works for you?

Digital Community(数码教育社区)

在西方国家,每年的10月31日,有个“Halloween”,辞典解释为“The eve of All Saints'Day”,中文译作:“万圣节之夜”。
